Conference biscuits in the business WOMO

My most unusual business meeting took place in a camper van. And not just because of the pandemic. The business WOMO (german for Wohnmobil = mobilhome) is owned by an entrepreneur who proves maximal flexibility in running her business.
With the computer on the lap in front of the motorhome on the beach, in the mountains or elsewhere – that’s the idealised idea of mobile working. In reality, however, this often means only a home office. Mobile meetings take place virtually, headsets in the ear, no matter where you are. For those who work with computers all the time anyway, Zoom, Teams & Co. are certainly practical and easy to integrate into everyday life. But for those who value face-to-face conversations, or who come from an industry that usually requires presence at the workplace, they have had to be creative during the COVID years – like the managing director of a medium-sized metalworking company. We met for a business meeting in her camper van. My first WOMO meeting in my 20+ year professional career.
“Mobile working doesn’t automatically mean digital working, it’s more about flexibility in the mind and finding opportunities for face-to-face collaboration.“
Of course, video meetings also take place in unusual places. According to Zoom user statistics, in 2021 these were, besides the desk, the bed, while jogging and or on public transport (click here to read the article on IT-Zoom).
“But all virtual meetings have one thing in common: you eat the conference biscuits alone.“
The meeting in the camper van was different: despite all the pandemic precautions, there was a creative working atmosphere – and biscuits. In this case, even genuine North German New Year’s cakes. With her business WOMO, the entrepreneur also demonstrates a rare leadership quality: I move to where I am needed and do without – possibly costly – business trips. How will this attitude be received by employees and business partners?
